14 Jul JavaServer Faces and Java Studio Creator
Bill Dudney
7:15-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004
Location: Qwest Auditorium (map)
Cost: Free

Description:
This talk will take you through the basics of building a JavaServer Faces application. You will understand how to build a basic JSF application. We will build an application manually and then build it again with Java Studio Creator. If time permits, we'll compare the two implementations to identify when and how to use JSCreator effectively.

Bio:
Bill Dudney is a Java architect with Object Systems Group. He has been doing Java development since late 1996 after he downloaded his first copy of the JDK. Bill is the co-author of three books; J2EE AntiPatterns (Wiley), Jakarta Pitfalls (Wiley), and Mastering JavaServer Faces (Wiley), and author of Eclipse Live (SourceBeat). He was a speaker at the 2003 Colorado Software Summit and speaks at No Fluff Just Stuff symposiums. Bill is also on the J2EE 1.5 Specification Expert Group.

14 Jul Basic Concepts: JESS
Mark Maslyn
6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004
Location: Qwest Auditorium (map)
Cost: Free

Description:
The Java Expert System Shell (JESS) is a rule engine and scripting environment written entirely in Java. You write declarative rules, if/then, and the system generates code that does artificial reasoning to find solutions to your constraints. Using Jess, you can build Java software that has the capacity to "reason" using knowledge you supply in the form of declarative rules. Jess is small, light, and one of the fastest rule engines available. Come learn the foundational concepts of rule programming and describing in the Jess language.

Speaker:
Mark Maslyn is a longtime Denver JUG member and Senior Software Engineer/Software Architect. He has designed, developed and deployed commercial Java applications, applets, and J2EE middleware as standalones and in N-tier web and client/server environments.
